Our update Missions are ” are the cultivation and improvement of the Science and Art of Surgery, the exchange of ideas, and the collaborative discourse amongst the Fellows. The Society recognizes that these missions are best achieved when our membership reflects the cultural, ethnic, and gender identities of the diverse population in the San Francisco Bay Area. “
From our original constitution: “The objectives of the Society are the cultivation and improvement of the Science and Art of Surgery and, to this end, the exchange of ideas and counsel amongst the Fellows for their mutual advantage.”
The SF Surgical Society was Established in 1939…
The first officers were Dr. Thomas Mullen as president, Dr. George Rhodes as secretary, and Dr. John Cline as treasurer.
In 1982 Carleton Mathewson, Jr., MD, FACS, presented a “Historical Review of the San Francisco Surgical Society” that was published in The American Journal of Surgery [link].
